Are Wild Animals Dangerous?

Lapland is home to reindeer, moose, foxes, hares, birds, and many other species. Although Finland also has bears, wolves, and wolverines, these animals are extremely shy and avoid humans. Encounters are exceptionally rare, especially near Rovaniemi.

The animals visitors are most likely to see are reindeer, which often wander freely near roads and villages. They are beautiful to watch, but drivers should always slow down if reindeer are close to the road.

 

Is the Cold Dangerous?

Winter temperatures can occasionally fall below -30°C (-22°F), but visitors are very safe when dressed appropriately.
